thoughts on linking a google calendar to slack for meeting schedule?
I'd set one up but I'm pretty sure I don't have permission to make integrations post to #announcements
There is a link to it on the site. I don't want to add integrations to announcements as it should be as streamline as possible
Is there any way we can get sponsors/logos on a vest/waistcoat instead of T-shirts this year? Otherwise it will be difficult to show off our logos if we go all steampunk...
I've already started on some new designs for the shirt as well
How opposed do you think people would be to making the base color black? I'm just curious
Hmm. Yellow on black would stand out really nicely. I saw some vests online that had a colorful front (some patterned, some plain), and a black back. Putting sponsor logos on the black background would be cool. And if we can get a blue front, then our Spartronics logo could be close to "normal"
Also, recalling that there was an airship in the teaser, something like this might inspire inspiration. Maybe for the driving team? https://www.amazon.com/Steampunk-Airship-Captain-Flying-Vest/dp/B005466G0I
Yeah I really like the idea of yellow on black it looks great as well as brighter colors of blue.
And those buttons on the front could be team buttons
It might be easy to make it as a "panel" that we can pin to regular shirts/vests.
I personally like black with our colors better it makes yellow stand out a lot better and is good with the white sponser logos as well.
I see a lot of opportunities this year for marketing with steampunk
We could dress up our logo with a steampunk/Victorian font, and maybe stylize our gear to make it more steampunky. Maybe have it connect to one or more smaller gears?
It is convenient that a lot of steampunk costumes feature gears...
They have to be certified safety glasses... These will do: https://www.amazon.com/ArcOne-G-FLY-A1101-Fly-Safety-Goggles/dp/B003WE9ZG6
I have The Fly ArcOne goggles if anyone wants to see them. The lenses are much bigger than typical steampunk welding goggles. Much more bug like. If you're going to punk these, let's talk. We can share ideas.
Another good engineering documentary is "Azorian" about the 1974 US attempt to salvage a sunken Soviet ballistic missile sub at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Think Recycle Rush on a grand scale under water.
If anyone's interested in mapping downtown Winslow on Sunday the 16th, https://www.meetup.com/OpenStreetMap-Seattle/events/234662245
Think 'the wikipedia of maps'. here's what winslow looks like right now on OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/47.62420/-122.51598
Back on the topic of goggles, what is the certification required? I'm looking at these... https://smile.amazon.com/Industrial-Steampunk-Welding-Goggles-Standard/dp/B01GDE64MY/ref=sr_1_12?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1475872226&sr=1-12&keywords=cool+safety+glasses+flip+up Amazon says they meet the following certifications: ANSI & CE Approved as protective safety Goggles. Exceeds ANSI Z87.1 & Z80.3 Standards
How will you convince the pit goggle gatekeepers that they are safety goggles and not cosplay goggles? "Amazon says so" might not work since they look the same as $7 cosplay ones. Try and find a manufacturer's or brand spec. Perhaps packaging says it?
I just think they're cool lookin' 🙂 But seriously, I agree there would need to be a way to prove they meet spec for the reason you describe
The Z87 tells you that they are safety rated. Your safety glasses should have the number as well.
According to the FRC safety manual: Safety Glasses Requirements Wear ANSI-approved, UL Listed, or CSA rated non-shaded safety glasses. Lightly tinted Yellow, Rose, Blue, and Amber tints are FIRST approved. Reflective lenses are prohibited, your eyes must be clearly visible to others. The use of anything other than ANSI-approved, UL-Listed, or CSA rated eye protection is prohibited.
I think those markings on the goggles are sufficient to show they meet the requirements.
If you (the general you) are considering The Fly goggles mentioned above, visit the manufacture's web site for a spec of the googles. Different model numbers have different tints (from 10% to 90%) and many are mirrored. I got the ones with only a 10% tint (i.e., block 10% of light, basically, clear). Unfortunately, they are mirrored. I removed the mirror coating with automotive polish (because that's what I had). If I saw the Titus ones to begin with, I probably would've done that. It seems easier. But I do like the larger field of vision on The Fly. They're just going to take more work.
I like them both, and agree the Fly goggles have advantages. I found a decent deal on the Titus ones with removable medium shaded lenses (could come in handy) & so I ordered a pair to evaluate the quality. I'll probably put them in the robotics room.
I thought I'd drop a plug for our locally owned Ace Hardware store. While most of the projects are for weapons, You can easily use it for other accessories more applicable to FRC. http://steampunk.wonderhowto.com/news/28-most-popular-steampunk-materials-your-local-hardware-store-0141461/
Wow that's impressive! They make it look so easy
I remember hearing about someone on Chief Delphi saying that there were going to be teams with a two ball autonomous. Probably has to be set up just right though.

does "Sat, November 5, 7am – 5pm" mean:
I assume the 7:05am ferry will be the right choice, to get to the school before the event starts.
I wish their event page was a bit better than "FRC Workshop" 😕
Yes, it always seems to be that way. At the workshop they hand out nice schedules with lots of detail, but they don't pre-publish them.
Hey if any of you guys going tomorrow have not been to the play I'm planning on attending (starts at 7, we can go get dinner then head there). You guys should come, it'll be fun
Not seriously. I'm actually doing it on Locke
Who's that? (All I can think about is hamilton these days)
When the police chief came into talk and asked who wrote the federalist papers I swear I blurted out John Jay James Madison and Alexander Hamilton so fast he didn't hear me XD
They played that at an event 2 years ago if I recall
Locke was the dude who came up with the basic ideals that would be written about in the declaration of independence and constitution, along with broader ideas in the federalist papers, all 100 years before the revolution

Tbh photoshop was way rushed on that one, tons of artifacts
if we can get a movie poster version that would be good
Obviously what we meant Random to be actually used for, political arguments.

If you think about it the "make it work then make it work better" approach has some very severe limitations
in most scenarios it is much more economical to simply make it work the best it possibly can, before you build it
It works well for iterative prototyping but other things not so much
we should be alright using this because we are constantly rebuilding the robot
I read a poignant guide to Ruby by why the lucky stiff
As a work of literature I would give it 8/10
I was so moved by it I decided to install the ruby development environment from IBM into my eclipse installation

I excel at weirdness, we should all know this by now.
roses weirdness level is 10/10 weirdness points
Extremely - file types like .jpg make automatic color adjustments and compress. .cr2, .dng and other camera raw types do not
You can learn more about it in Ms. N’s photo classes
You are allowed, after all to send emails containing an infinite number of characters so a piece of software that can turn a file like an hour long movie in MPEG-4 format into a long string of text that can be copypasted into an email and sent without running into the attachment limit would be super great!
base64 / asciiarmor but your emails will certainly be bounced for size if you're sending full movies in any format at all
Well jack you don't actually need to send the entire thing all at once
If the file had been converted to text you could just copy paste sections of it into email and send them one at a time with instructions telling the other person how to reassemble them into the full file
I don't really care about how long it takes particularly I just want the file to get to its destination without any loss in quality
because you know its important for backups to not be HORRIBLY CORRUPTED DURING TRANsFER OFFSITE
I would love to build an extension for thunderbird that does this
I do need a 3d printer fixed as well please message me if you know how to run 3d printers

before you say "tom please stfu we are using slack this year" I would just like to say that I am putting this on here because I think its neat and I don't want us to use this until next year or whatever.

Sorry to dissapoint, our new magnets arrived!
keep it away from my hard drive
Also when did you guys decide to order magnets?
Early into break - not very expensive and we will put them on the cars when we go to competition
I don't remember the specifics on the size. Just over a foot if I recall
Wow that's a big magnet - good for a car for sure.
JeVois Smart Machine Vision Camera - amazing! I recommend the video. http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/jevois-smart-machine-vision-camera-03-01-2017/
I have two computers and a usb cord connecting them
this is pretty important I need to move like half a terabyte of stuff a minute guys
@tom_wiggin I believe that only USB-C supports computer-to-computer transfer over a normal cable. Regular USB (1.1 through 3.0) from a computer with a type-A connector cannot connect to another computer with a type-A cable (even though those cables exist...)
Special data transfer cables do exist, which emulate a network between the two computers.
I have two ethernet cables and a LAN box if that helps
You could put both computers on the LAN and transfer files that way. Either connect them to your normal LAN (so they get IP addresses through DHCP), or set IP addresses manually so they can talk to each other (pick two addresses on the same network, like 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0)
If the computers are running Linux then you could use 'scp' to copy individual files, or 'rsync' to copy entire directory trees.
You might need to install and configure Samba on the Mint computer, then connect to it with Windows file sharing from the Windows side. Then copy files using the Windows file manager.
:-) Photos don't help much when transferring files
Which way do you want to move the files? Windows to Mint, or the other way around?
I want to be able to access files both ways
Well, I know that you can set up Mint to act as a Windows file share with the Samba package. That way it looks just like any other Windows machine on the network. Likewise, you should be able to mount a Windows machine that is shared using a network filesystem... I know I've done that, but I can't remember how. Let me look it up.
Here are some links about accessing data on the network: https://www.linux.com/learn/linux-migration-guide-accessing-windows-data-linux-and-vice-versa
I remember now that I used CIFS when I did it long ago. I haven't had Windows in the house for years, though.
mint can automount NTFS partitions just fine
I see that Mint makes some things easier: https://windyweather.net/2015/09/27/linux-mint-windows-file-sharing-just-works/
I think we should have moved this to a private channel, but I have to go now anyway. Good luck. These links should give you pointers. My last Google search was for 'network file sharing windows linux mint'. You can see what else pops up if you search.

what if we took chalk and made a spartronics logo on one of the brick walls in the 300 build? Or we could do like a poster if that's to crazy
That would look really cool. The school might not like it though. Wagon wheel maybe?
haven't had any spray paint in like two years though
Im going to just put it out there that neither Spartronics, the captains, or any mentors condone vandalism however well meaning
We could talk to the school about something removable (not paint) in the wagon wheel perhaps
Graffiti isn't always vandalism Jon but your right that the school wouldn't like damage to it's walls
I just picked up an enormous roll of yellow plastic though and we could probably use it as a canvas
and there is an old house being demolished in my neighborhood so I could probably ask for one of the window frames and use it as a frame for the canvas
do you want pictures of the frame and plastic canvas?
all we would need is one masonry screw a bucket of blue paint some rivets and loads of painters tape
Whatever artwork you do on your own time is 👍 in my book. If you want to use it for team stuff, we can take a look when its done
I have neither paint, properly sized rivets nor the window frame
But feel free to talk to your teammates about it
if we make this we could probably put it in the bainbridge art museum in front of the ferry terminal
I ended up misconfiguring stuff and I think I broke other things

I wanted to make a similar one at home so I can mess around with the simulation proper when I have the time
I also need as much ethernet cable as I can get and if anybody has an old pc I could have that would be great
I got the window frame from the junk pile so after school tomorrow I will try and scrounge up some paint so I can start on that painting
Anyone have a link to the team meeting calendar, i can't find it

btw can we add a ludicrous speed button to the control station?
Hi all, my friend from college Todd Miller owns his own spring company (Myers Spring) in Indiana, and coincidently FIRST asked him to make 400 of the springs that will be installed on Steamworks fields for collecting gears. They're also sending us 4 of the springs for free (they're shipping today). Todd shared with me a video of the manufacturing process of the spring so I could share it with you - enjoy! https://youtu.be/b3wv313y5SM
That's awesome! Robots making springs for robots to play with!

I actually commented on their video (something I never do), and said how similar our robots are in general design.
Yeah, it'd be nice to be on their team; it looks like they get 40 kPa during auto, then shift into being a gear bot.
yeah. They're an older team and have a lot of experience, it's pretty cool though.

4918 has a pretty accurate shooter. They have to shoot from a floating position, so if their drivers get that field spot down, they could do really well.
I'm watching the Mount Vernon event YouTube playlist
I'm proud of our team! Good job drivers + human players, good job scouts, good job marketers, (tiny yay for mechanics) and thank your parents for the support!
And good the cheering is improving (I mean we did get the spirit award) - thanks for responding to me, If anyone has any good cheer ideas please let me know! (Or suggestions)
Also for those out there who didn't know - we brought Valhalla to elimination for the first time in their whole experience with first - don't regret picking them, they deserved it (they're older than us as well). They also have no parent support or mentors, and barely any sponsors and few members. They have to work so much harder than many other teams, yet they did so well. Impressive to say the least.
Proud of all who worked on the robot, those who attended and those who helped out our team in anyway. We did the best we've ever done and we should be proud of our accomplishments
Okay okay this is pretty bad but what if we did cheer that was "1, 2, 3, SHOOT!" (I would yell the 1, 2, 3)
Obviously do this when shooting or right before
You want to spell it? (Missing the s)
Gimme some cheers please, we only have two...
Cheers have to be simple if they're going to be effective. Make use of the vowels in Helios if you want to do a cheer for him.
Also glacier peak matches ALREADY up!
Hey rose, what about somthing like: by the power of Robby
Helio Helios he's our bot come at him give it your best shot.
Ugh it's too long. (Also gracious professional? a bit negative)
I mean it could work it's lengthy tho
Pronto came up with an idea for helios but it was a bit long so I was like eh
this is why I liked 1, 2, 3 shoot cuz its short
and it makes sense for helios of course
H. E. L. I. O. (Maybe drop the s) lets go helios go go go
It sounds better to spell it (without the s) in my head, you'll have to say it to me
One thing I'd like to mention on cheers: It would be good to have the 'crowd' portion of the cheer be a full word or phrase. I feel that the '49'-'15' cheer results in others in the gym mostly just hearing the '15' part. (Except in the times when Rose is louder than the rest of the team :-)
I kind of like the way SOTAbots repeat their 'oh, yeah' chant, rather than split it up.
Would you rather I just start a chant like 49 (pause) 15? Just curious
I think the numbers are trouble, unless you can get us to say the whole thing
or fortttyyyyy ninnnnne fifteeeeeeen (like the ooooh yeah sota does)
I could do the sota oh yeah with our number to be honest
Maybe we should be like the fanz and just tell aaaaaayyyyyyeeeee
*Thread Reply:* or 1333 in hexadecimal! (4915)
what about our number? (Although YES)
That's easy and could work but not many people would understand lol!
(Oh, no... maybe I secretly wish I were on their team? Nooooo! Spartronics is way more fun!)
(We don't judge, they're pretty great tbh)
(I have to keep track of how many times I say the 11 though we'll go to long XD)
We should do the 1001100110011 and then SPARTRONICS
especially if it goes from quiet to loud, capping it off with a loud spartronics or 4915 would be great
I could yell BINARY! To get us started (because not everyone is quick to respond)
I like it! Even though not everyone knows binary it's interesting and teams could ask about it and we'll be known for it eventually if we keep it up
We're just trying out stuff so everything is good
The first line would need to end with a word that rhymes with five
and a lot of cheers I here out there that are long I never understand
like 49-15 or we are - spartronics is easy because they're short and understandable
more than three or four words is pushing it
two or three is optimal, numbers excluded
Numbers can be easier, like the ones and zeros repetitively one after another is easy to do.

guarantee you that's going to become a mess of words to anyone listening.
I propose this (as a starting point). "Team spartronics drive and thrive. F R C 4 9 1 5.
I like it? I'm still hesitant to do longer phrases (maybe because my voice will die), but I'm definitely open to it.
It only works if you get the syllabication right. Say it out loud. I think you need 'team'
Now you want a song? (Vocal cords are crying right now)
How about 'Ole, ole, ole, ole' from Chumbawamba's Top of the world? Or some other fun song clip?
Lol. Yeah do you mean a video for the song?
I was thinking of having a small segment of a song that everyone knows, and when Spartronics sings it, everyone can get the song stuck in their head.
Anyway, I'm out of ideas for the evening. No energy left.
You know you can edit your messages?
A question from a friend: How did Neobots (team 2903) already qualify for worlds? According to The Blue Alliance (and the team homepage), they are going to Worlds:
Interesting part of this instructable is the use of Fusion360 to design gears for 3d printing.
Here's a multipart instructable on robots that has some nice elements... Perhaps good for managing summer boredom?
No, wait, apparently it's fake, I can't find it on the BBC website
But the next companion will be the first openly gay companion.
The London FRC Competition is going on, team 4907 is thdrd
Seriously? No autocorrect? I meant 4907 is there.
2046 has a really good shooter, they just got 34 kpa
And they have a floating position on the field, with our auto and them, we might be able to get 40kpa during the game
So their us except with floating position and better gear grabber
It's less accurate but they shoot faster
Yes, but they got 34 KPA with only 2 during auto
I'm just looking at the fact that 2046 got 34KPA during their first match today
All I'm saying is we may want to make note of them
They may be the perfect compliment for us
And they can pick up gears from the ground
Robotopi had a good but slow shooter apparently
4918 has an auto that goes to the hopper
So there's gonna be a dance at regionals?
GUYS 4911 IS DOING THIS WE NEED TO AS WELL
Sounds like phun. But we might have to scout Friday night. ? If you wish to go you will need a driver and one adult.
Very exciting elimination match featuring three of the best shooters in the PNW; Roboctopi, Bear Metal, and Xbot
Is that the one where 42.33 KPA was achieved?

Can people check their sweatshirts? I'm missing a Medium that had a bunch of stuff in it's pockets that was in the stands
Especially Someone who had a Large, because there was one left over yesterday
The ASCII character for space is 00100000. For those with Macs, you can type 'man ascii' at a terminal prompt. For those who wish to be more obscure, use octal instead of binary.
Skunkworks made it to worlds via wait list! Last minute, too!
And Cyberknights made it in due to some teams declining!
Official list of teams from PNW: http://frc-districtrankings.firstinspires.org/2017/PNW
It doesn't say skunkworks qualified??
They are on the wait list right behind cyber knights
If anyone wants to trade for a M 4911 sweatshirt I know a guy who wants a Spartronics one (M or L).
I can provide mine, though it is washed but not worn or lightly worn ( they are all in the same drawer).
@binnur She said "sweatshirt", not T-shirt. I don't think you have a sweatshirt...
glad someone edits my content - yes, I don't have a sweatshirt...
Before you know it, they're all grown up and moving out. Bon voyage!
It only seems like a couple of months since he was first born.
is the weight of the box (robot plus pit stuff) $1200 to ship to Houston and back.
Hey at least hes not 4915 pounds
Interesting research happening at Wazoo... http://www.sciencealert.com/physicists-say-they-ve-created-a-fluid-with-negative-mass?utm_medium=email&utm_source=flipboard
Oohh, perhaps there is hope for the Alcubierre Drive
We're with up-a-creek robotics and barker redbacks
Hopefully! (I will have three aps next year...)
We will have to figure out how to get them rescheduled :-)
Well, I can't go this year either. Work! I think I should have stayed in school...
Kevin Ross played some poker
Check out @MachinePix's Tweet: https://twitter.com/MachinePix/status/849687930876567552?s=09
@jon, please get me a list of who is going to Roboprom. We will need a chaperone. I will go if majority of students are going.
How far is Hyatt regency from ours? If anyone already knows...
I will post in announcements so we can get the most accurate number of people
I blame you @chrisrin for getting me into a wormhole of science related articles and then black hole videos (welp there goes an hour of my life, I just need to go close to a blackhole now to get my homework done (actually that'd be counterproductive because then all time would go faster than me and I'd never turn in my homework))
@rose_bandrowski: Sorry 😐... recommend steering clear of black holes 🤓
😂 I'll do my best (that article was really cool though!)
Doctor Who season 10 is coming out tonight at 21:00 on channel 162 BBC America.
What dye did you use and more importantly do you have more?
@alexlf: We have some extra hair dye... that is unless @danabatali ends up dyeing his eyebrows (hint hint)
Eyesbrows are a no go for me. @dana_batali: You should definitely consider it!
Trying to think of a pun relating to dying and dyeing...
http://www.dailyhaha.com/_pics/solution-for-oversleeping1.htm. Hope the worlds travel group has a safe smooth trip tomorrow! See you Thursday.
^that's a really good idea oh my goodness. 10/10 would use
both options need to be $0.99, we'll be rich
Where's gabe we need to hire him to make a new app for us
Are our match numbers up yet? I'm not seeing them on blue alliance despite them saying they'd be posted today...
1st one on Thurs and Friday, gonna be fun!
I'm not really following the schedule sorry
*Thread Reply:* @rose_bandrowski it's actually an orange stress ball
*Thread Reply:* XD reminds me of the time last year when I broke a test tube during a meeting with one of those lol
Is hat an orange in Chris's glasses?
lucky! I'm so jealous sitting here studying for aps... and sats... and acts...
Lucas some teachers were playing if in there class room. Mrs To was playing it and Mr wechler. We also tried in the cafeteria
Shows you how much shooting matters!
We could see an FTL drive in our lifetimes!
Sharing a few things I stumbled upon recently. Since they are links, I'm going to put them inside a comment on this to (hopefully) avoid a vertically huge post. Let's see if it works...
*Thread Reply:* First thing up is this “Roboleague” video from a couple of years ago. Dean and Woodie have a few spots, but mostly it’s about a few teams and their efforts to win Einsteins. There are a couple smaller, “good-but-not-elite” teams, but I’d say there is more attention given to a few of the higher performing teams (Robonauts, Cheesy Poofs), and the video provides an interesting view into the positives and negatives of being on teams like that. I assume people who have been around a while have seen the video, but others probably have not… https://vimeo.com/141502715
Next, is a set of resources actually. Similar to Skunkworks, Citrus Circuits does a set of fall workshops for other teams, and they post videos of them online. I highly recommend the Strategic Design presentation, and the others look good too. Here’s a link to the full set: http://www.citruscircuits.org/fall-workshops.html I get a sense that sharing, collaboration, and helping other teams is something that team really emphasizes – kudos to them!
Finally, something fun. If you have an Xbox 360, there’s actually an FRC game from 2012 available for $3. Catalyst 2012. Here’s the link, but you’ll probably need to search for it on your console. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Catalyst-2012/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550c64
*Thread Reply:* Here's the trailer for Catalyst 2012. Graphics are not... awesome... but game play and robot config options look pretty good. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=catalyst+2012+video&view=detail&mid=82365A10757AA72A3FDF82365A10757AA72A3FDF&FORM=VIRE
*Thread Reply:* Totally agree - I would recommend anyone, especially leadership, watch the Strategic Design one
*Thread Reply:* While the video production quality isn't as good, both the 2015 and 2016 mechanical design presentations seem to have good tips about how to (& not to) use CAD within an overall design process, including recommended time savers.
Hey, could I get a ride with someone to the picnic next weekend?
Does anyone remember what team had the Danny Devido bot was on?
maybe someone needs to make spartronics colors for slack???!
There is a close blue and yellow. #00254C,#15467a,#EEB211,#FFFFFF,#EEB211,#FFFFFF,#C59353,#007BFF
Here are the logo hex colors if you want to modify the above: Blue:
You can do it yourself! :-) Drop down the menu next to Spartronics4915 in the upper left corner of the screen, select Preferences, and then select Sidebar Theme. If you are already using Cruz's theme colors, then they will be in the custom setting section. You can change the colors the way you like, and share it here.
Using the logo colors that James used, #1455fb,#15467a,#fcff00,#383F45,#fcff00,#FFFFFF,#fcff00,#1455fb looks more like the spartronics logo.
I've heard that we need to show up at 2 and that we need to show up at 3 for Rotary from different places, and I'm a little confused about which time is correct. Anyone know?
I'll be there at two... I don't know if I I've been misled as well though...
Okay someone just screwed up the calendar time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WshJjLUdPhE For next year - simulating the new game we might consider using pvc pipes to simulate robots and put red/blue taping on them for allience representation. Look at the last 30 seconds of the video or so.
Nice idea! Gives perspective to the size of the robot with relation to the field area. This idea should probably be posted in strategy, not random :-)
Anyone know when girls generation this year is?
Also thanks Riyadth! I think it'd be an easy idea to implement and have some fun with.
I think I'll be going with my dad, as he used to work at Kings as a teacher and wants to visit and talk to the team.
Oh no. No no no no no no. Please not water.
Is this like I real thing or are they just f**ing with us
well a actual water game would be really hard for them to execute
Forget the water game, whens the quadcopter game coming?
That would be even worse because what if they hit each other
You didn't he's joking that you should have replaced worse with better 🙄
That would be interesting however I'm pretty sure they're going with this sort of 'timeline' thing with the imperialistic powers game (stronghold), and the victorian era (steamworks), so my hope is that it's like the Roaring 20's this time. 😂
That or the 1960-70's with the cold war / moon landing.
Sammmme. 1969 was a good year. OH what if we had a car-themed game! Now THAT sounds good!
Well I'll play that anyways but you're right it'd be appropriate
I'm gonna say it's star wars
But Star Wars happened a long time ago in a galaxy that is confusingly un advanced.
Who else is psyched for the teaser for the game tomorrow!!!!
The teaser will be out at 4 tonight and there's like a little show going on the livestream. I won't be able to watch it so I recommend someone else does and reports back
I believe it's at 5, their post said 8 pm eastern time
That'll be great tho, but everyone will have a heart attack
I actually think that a water game could be a cool challenge
Maybe they'll do what they did last year and scare everyone in the kickoff video
My guess is that it will be water themed but no real water
I would think I'm a marketer I'll let you deal with it
I remember several students and mentors playing this game outside at worlds, so thought I would share. AI cropping up everywhere these days. https://blogs.microsoft.com/ai/2017/09/13/microsofts-social-bot-zo-wants-play-exploding-kittens/
Can we please do a tron themed robot
So they were totally messing with us with the water game hints
Well maybe not, video games have water in them!
now I want to know what the actual game is but we have to wait so long
I've just been watching the teaser over and over looking for more
Yes but I don't recognize the bottom one
That's what I thought. I doubt they would put such a huge hint as to the new game pieces in the teaser it must be an old one!
This is really kinda weird for me because I started building a little portable arcade machine and to see the trailer be about arcade machine. Weirden me out
zoom in on the graphics on the side and front of the video game machine in the video + the above (is that from the DLC pack?) - how do wheeled robots climb steps? may need to figure that out
OHHHH thats interesting! I came up with an idea on how to get a robot to climb stairs recently, weird.
Marketing team: 8-bit version of Spartronics logo plz :spartronics:
What was up with that water hint???? Were they screwing with us?
Hold on… we're there any 8-bit games that used water?
Lucas I think they were just messing with us with that
River raid is one of the first but that was an Atari game. We also have 1942 which involves water but mostly is flying, some pinball machine had water themes
No problem - fun to play... I need to simplify those instructions & I can't edit the original. Here's the simpler method for 8-bit image transformation with MS Paint: Process (Windows only - sorry)
I saw someone speculate that the 8/9 FRC blog post from Frank Merrick may be something of a game hint. The post is about surprises, how they can disrupt the "auto-pilot" routines we tend to fall into, and how that can be a good thing. The person who speculated it's a game hint thinks it may be foreshadowing of a surprising difference between this year's game and past games, and they specifically mention that maybe this year's game will not be very compatible with the usual wheeled WCDs and similar wheeled drive trains. Put that together with the stairs and ramps imagery from the teaser, and I'd say there's a fair chance tracked robots could come into play this year. And/or possibly robot arms that pick things up and place them since it has apparently been a while since there was a game with that requirement. Fun to speculate - here's that blog post: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/blog/2017-surprises
What do you mean by tracked robots? Also nice catch!
Like a tank or earth mover... check this out: http://www.team1619.org/robots/design-spotlights/tank-drive
FYI: The first Power Up DLC was released today. Here is the link. https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/blog/event-preference-system-and-dlc-pack-1
I thought that's what you meant @chrisrin thanks for the clarification.
SO COOL!!!!!!!!! Chris I am constantly astonished at how broad your skills and interests are.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that's impressed!
I was astonished to learn about the pulleys, how they clamshell ignored separate and come together for the purpose of applying a different working radius to the triangular belt to change the ratio. That is absolutely brilliant. I watched this with James Sovic and we were freaking out.
Is this the year there will be an oculus in the kop? https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/03/scientists-test-vr-system-to-control-robots-from-virtual-cockpit/
Look at this little cnc robot... https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/autonomous-goliath-cnc-robot-04-10-2017/
the sehome seamonsters are doing an event a few blocks down from my dorm, did we have much connection with them as a team? I'd like to say hi
Weren’t they at the same hotel as us for one of the competitions?
maybe for glacier peak last year? bright green, squid themed
now that you mention it I remember playing CAH at a La Quinta
We played cards against humanity with like their entire team in the hotel lounge thingy
haha I will I'm just finishing off a hot chocolate I just made
@Cruz_Strom and I were talking today and we were thinking that for “squad day” tomorrow, if you’re not already doing something or if your outfit allows it, we should wear our spartronics
I thought this was pretty cool. I want one badly for ski season.
Totally cool looking Bo, I'm with ya on wanting one
It's kind of like Human Heater from an episode of Silicon Valley… except this is safe.
Hey has anyone else looked at Robocats at Montana state university?
The safety animation contest has been announced, and it reinforces the video game theme of the upcoming season.
Anyone interested in taking on the challenge to make an animation this year? Here's an award we haven't won yet!
